So you use the winpop component of server 2003. GrandByblos wrote:For one domain (), we have mails set up, only POP, because we didn't want to get troubles with SMTP. okay, allright, but how can our domain work without it ?īefore asking my ISP to open it, I want to understand this, in case of I'm losing something important. and here is my problem : the sending returns me no error at all, but I never receive the mails ( after asking for some help here, I'm starting to understand that we must have the port 25 open. I tried, and I connect to the POP3 without any problem (port 8000), connect to the SMTP (port 8001) without any problem too (but we will certainly not use it), and tried to send an email to the new mail.

So, I changed the port into hMailServer admin, to use port 8000 for POP, 8001 for SMTP etc (it's actually only for test purpose). So, I installed it (on the same server, because we have only one), and tried to configure it with one other domain (), just to be sure that it works fine.
#HMAILSERVER NEVER RECEIVES EMAIL INSTALL#
I must precise that our mails work perfectly, and the port 25 is closed !!!!īut the winpop thing is a piece of crap, and we would like to install a real mail server, something with more functionnalities than add/remove a user and I found hMailServer. Our ISP block the port 25, and as we didn't want to use the SMTP part, it wasn't a problem for us, so we didn't ask to open it.
#HMAILSERVER NEVER RECEIVES EMAIL WINDOWS#
We have some domains, hosted on a dedicated server.įor one domain (), we have mails set up, only POP, because we didn't want to get troubles with SMTP.Īt the time we created the mails (I wasn't in the company yet) my colleague used the standard winpop, integrated into Windows 2003 Server. while it is perfectly possible to set it to another port, you will only get messages from clients that use that port for connection - and not gmail, yahoo, or anyother server who doesn't know the port that you set. the only port you MUST always set to 25 is the SMTP port. Thank you very much, I will tell you what I've see doom's explanation above. I will try on weekend if I can connect directly to mediaconverter with my laptop to see if the 25 port is still blocked. I eliminated the wireless router but the same thing exists. My network is like this: fiber optic in building->media converter->switch->cable to another switch->switch->cable->wireless router who has dhcp disabled and wan port not used. No hardware firewall, but who knows, maybe that stinky media converter has one inside and I don't know. The more that I digg, the more it seems that I'm blocked from outside of my network. "APPLICATION"ĕ052 " 11:37:30.640" "Servers started.Tried FTP server on 25, still no telnet response from outside. "DEBUG"ē100 " 11:37:03.796" "Application::ExitInstance - Closing database connection." I just stopped the service, and started it back again. And I dont believe in computer self-acting I say "obvious", because we obviously changed something, since it doesnt work anymore.
#HMAILSERVER NEVER RECEIVES EMAIL UPDATE#
No need to say we didnt change anything obvious on friday, we didnt make any windows update (i checked winupdate logs), we are not behind a firewall on the server. Its kind of critical now, and im tired as hell (with a headache coming for sure, and the big question : why on earth did I choose to sysadmin ^^). Since I was using hMailServer 4.3, I upgraded it (its now the latest stable one). I've been looking for 8 hours yesterday, but couldnt find anything close to a solution. Our server is behind a switch, port 25 is open and redirected to the server adress. all the websites are still online, and reachable from outside i can send email to outside and inside net workĤ.

I can receive emails from inside the networkģ. I can't receive email from outside the networkĢ. I check the logs (hMail and ASSP), and there is like 10% of normal activity, and its been like that since friday afternoon (but no1 works on week-end here, so i didnt notice it).ġ. This monday, i come to work, and no mails incoming. Its running on Windows 2003 server, in a small office (15 workers).Īctive Directory running, webserver running (IIS), hosting about 10 websites. I've been using hMailServer for a while now, with close to no problems. I'm (supposed to be ) sysadmin where i work.
